Bicyclesexual

According to the BBC, a man has been sentenced to three years probation for having sex with a bicycle in private. Apparently he was caught humping his bike by a hotel cleaner.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to argue that having sex with a bicycle is normal thing to do but why is it illegal? There's no issue of consent, there are no living parts, as far as I can see it's essentially the same as having sex with any other inanimate object. Are people to now be arrested for using dildos?

Am I missing some fundamental point of law or is this conviction completely ridiculous?

I agree with the ridiculousness.

According to the article, he pled, and was found, guilty of a breach of the peace. And under section 80 of the Sexual Offences Act, if it is determined that there is a sexual element to a breach of the peace then the offender is placed on the sex offenders register.

What I don't understand is how having sex with a bicycle in the privacy of your own hotel room is a breach of anyone's peace??!!
