I kissed a girl and I liked it
How many genuine teenage lesbians not getting beaten up in the street will it take before I forgive this song it existence?
I'm talking of course about the bloody dreadful "I kissed a girl and I liked it" by Katy Perry. Everything I hate about straight girls tarnishing the name of bisexuals, in one particularly cringe-worthy song.
Here's a taste:
I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it
No, I don't even know your name
It doesn't matter,
You're my experimental game
Just human nature,
It's not what,
Good girls do
Not how they should behave
My head gets so confused
Hard to obey
Now songs like this do have a positive effect on the lesbian community, in that an otherwise homophobic person might look more favorably on a lesbian after hearing the song and thinking light homosexuality is cool, but they also make bisexuals look stupid and frivolous.

I think the fad of teenage girls thinking it was cool to snog other teenage girls occured a long time before this song came out.
Half the girls who kiss other girls at school or in bars are just doing it have a laugh or show off. Out of all my female friends, I've been most of them 'go all lesbian' when they've had a drink in them - but none of them would identify as a sober bisexual, let alone a lesbian.
There isn't the same stigma of two girls kissing as two guys making out (a girl who says she's 'bisexual' is generally accepted as just that. A bisexual guy is generally just called 'gay.')
This song is a product of the trend - not the other way around.
And it's catchy.
i agree with roland that there is definately less stigma of girls kissing. However, this song suggests to the public (and teenage girls) that female bisexuality isn't something to be taken seriously.
i identify as being bi (possibly pan), i havn't told many people, and have never been with a woman. When i do express my feelings to friends they think its a joke.It makes me feel uncomfortable and i feel like i can't talk to them about it. Songs like this doesn't help. Its frustrating.
