Really Helpful Cognitive Distortion List

One book I found really helpful when I first suffered from depression was "Feeling Good" by David D. Burns. Granted, his tone was a little patronising but it was grounded in good, solid Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) theory.

It outlines many of the most practiced CBT exercises and also contains a really helpful list: 'Definitions of Cognitive Distortions.' I was very happy to discover that this list is now available on wikipedia.

Most of the troubling thoughts experienced by people with mental health problems are due to cognitive distortions (also known as 'Thinking Errors') and sometimes examining a thought against this list can help you highlight whether or not it has any rational basis.
