Katy Perry's Suspect Bipolar Reference

Just when I thought I had zero tolerance for Katy Perry I found it was possible to dislike her on whole new levels. I noticed that in addition to her homophobic lyrics, she's not exactly helping promote tolerance towards mental health problems.

To me, her song "Hot 'N' Cold" says "You're like someone with bipolar disorder and I hate that about you."

She rants about how much she hates a lover being indecisive and then compares his behavior to someone with bipolar disorder:

"Someone call the doctor
Got a case of love bipolar
Stuck on a roller coaster
And I can't get off this ride..."

Granted, it's used as a metaphor for the ups and down of being in love but perhaps I'd find it less annoying if it was sung in a less angry voice and did not follow remarks like:

"Yeah you, PMS
Like a bitch."

Also unimaginative, trivial lyrics such as:
"We fight we break up,
We kiss we make up."

don't exactly inspire me to believe that she understands the depth of the problem that she's happy to chuck into her music for the want of a better rhyme for "roller coaster."

Now all she needs to do is insult The Cornish as she'll complete the set.

Okay, I'm worried about the fervid hatred you have for Ms. Perry. Surely she's not worth it!

I lived in Cornwall and went to university in Wales. I heard enough 'sheep shagger' jokes to give Kate Perry SEVERAL songs worth of 'anti Cornish' lyrics!!

My mother suffers from bipolar and she is just like me and you but she has to take 16 pills a day. But when I first heard Kate Perry's song Hot n Cold I liked it but when I listened to the lyrics carefully I heard her saying " Your like someone with Bipolar and I hate it about you". I am upset at these words she sad and I would like her to come out and apologize to everyone about those lyrics in Hot n Cold. But we all know that will never happen

I agree with everyone's comments about kate perry''s hot and cold song. It is rude crude and soicalbly unacceptable. If she is going to judge bipoolars in her song, she should take a look at herself, perhaps she's bipolar!

she has had no business saying anything about bipolar people, that song gives all bipolar a bad rap and it is totally uncalled for. That is my personal opinion.

Actually I feel like these lyrics describe how love makes many people feel including me. Sometimes I do feel like breaking up and later we do kiss and make up. Love is a lot like a roller coaster and sometimes I am hot and cold and yes and no..I feel a lot like Katy Perry's song Hot N' Cold. I did not find it offensive when she compared it to being bipolar. I do not think she meant it in any means to disrespect any one. It is simply just a good comparison between how love makes people feel and being bipolar. In fact Katy Perry is bipolar herself and so is Russell Brand. I understand other's frustration in Katy Perry's lyrics but I don't think she meant it in any disrespectful way but rather just a comparison.

Admittedly, it's not her biggest faux pas and in isolation, it would be fine. It's this comment in combination with all the other stupid things she has said, that show her to be completely oblivious to many of the issues she attempts to "tackle."

She obviously ins't homophobic if in her song 'Firework' she subliminally states you should be yourself and show your true colours, and in the video she shows 2 men kissing in a straight club because there not afraid to show who they are.
Also in 'Hot n Cold' She says 'Got a case of mild bipolar' not 'Your someone with bipolar and I hate you' because your right thats just sick, and she would have to pay millions of pounds/dollars or whatever to Federal Government to allow the song to be published..

And im 13...
